A Little About UEC
We are a nonprofit, independent, environmental watchdog for the National Forests and native wildlife in Utah. There are several important facets to our work.
First, our Forest Monitoring Program monitors Forest Service projects such as mining, logging, grazing, road-construction, and motorized recreation. We utilize the administrative process to comment on and appeal those projects, where necessary, to improve them or stop them. We have even successfully litigated illegal Forest Service actions in federal court.
Second, UEC has a statewide National Forest Wilderness Proposal. After years of on-the-ground work, UEC identified over five million acres (of more than eight million total) of Wilderness-quality land on the National Forests. We are fighting to have these land proected for ourselves, our future generation, and for their own intrinsic value.
Third, UEC is a strong voice for wildlife. At this time we have an active campaign to restore an ecologically effective population of wolves to Utah.
Fourth, UEC is active in community outreach. We set up a table dozens of events throughout the year, such as at Farmers' Markets and festivals, in order to get the message out. We also hold an annual conference in the fall and sponsor other events throughout the year. Check our website for upcoming dates and times.
