Utah Environmental Congress

Activist Workshops

The UEC offers a free workshop on the administrative appeals process for any group interested in learning how to communicate with the Forest Service. We also make the workshop materials available to anyone (see below), realizing that some people won't be able to attend a workshop in person.

The comprehensive workshop materials provide people with all the tools needed to voice their concerns and achieve on-the-ground changes in forest management. The workbook materials include step-by-step procedures for writing comments and administrative appeals. It includes an overview of federal laws the Forest Service must follow (although they often don't) such as the Endangered Species Act, the National Environmental Policy Act and the National Forest Management Act. It includes handouts on wildlife management and water quality on National Forests, Freedom Of Information Act requests, a glossary of Forest Service terms, and how to use the media to attract attention to forest and wildlife issues. It also includes a comprehensive document of legal citations.

The workshop as well as the materials have consistently received high praise and have motivated people to act who otherwise would not have. We hope it will be useful to you as well.
